L’Eroica 2026: the World Rides Through Tuscany Once Again

This weekend, the rolling hills of Tuscany are once again the stage for one of the most fascinating cycling events in the world. Today and tomorrow, 3-4 October 2026, thousands of cyclists from across the globe gather in Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of Siena’s countryside, to celebrate the spirit of vintage cycling at L’Eroica.

Born in 1997 with just 92 participants, L’Eroica has grown into an international phenomenon that combines sport, history, culture, and the timeless beauty of the Tuscan landscape. The event was created to preserve the famous strade bianche (white gravel roads) of the Siena countryside and to keep alive the values of traditional cycling: passion, effort, adventure, and camaraderie.

Nearly 9,000 Riders from Around the World

According to organizers’ estimates, the 2026 edition is expected to welcome approximately 9,000 participants, with cyclists arriving from dozens of countries. Alongside a strong Italian presence, riders come from Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Austria, France, the Netherlands, and many other nations, confirming Tuscany’s status as one of the world’s premier cycling destinations.

The international atmosphere is one of the event’s most distinctive features. In the streets of Gaiole, visitors can hear multiple languages while admiring beautifully restored vintage bicycles, wool jerseys, leather shoes, and classic cycling accessories that transport everyone back to the golden age of the sport.

A New Two-Day Format

For the first time, the event is fully organized across two days.

Saturday, 3 October is dedicated to the most demanding routes:

  • L’Eroico: 210.9 km with 3,873 meters of elevation gain
  • Crete Senesi: 132.5 km with 2,327 meters of elevation gain

Sunday, 4 October features the shorter routes:

  • Cento Val d’Arbia: 106.3 km
  • Gallo Nero: 80.7 km
  • Valle del Chianti: 45.1 km

These routes cross some of Tuscany’s most iconic landscapes, including the vineyards of Chianti Classico, the Crete Senesi, medieval villages, castles, and endless stretches of scenic white roads.

Cycling Legends Return to Tuscany

Among the notable guests expected this year are former professional cyclists Paolo Bettini, Giovanni Visconti, and Francesco Failli, joining thousands of amateur riders in the celebration of cycling’s heritage.

More Than a Cycling Event

L’Eroica is much more than a ride. During the weekend, Gaiole in Chianti transforms into a lively festival featuring local food, Tuscan wines, cycling exhibitions, music, and cultural activities. Visitors have the opportunity to experience authentic Tuscany while sharing the unique atmosphere created by a community united by a passion for cycling and slow travel.

For travelers exploring Tuscany this weekend, L’Eroica offers an unforgettable glimpse into the region’s soul: spectacular scenery, rich traditions, warm hospitality, and the enduring spirit of adventure that has made this event famous around the world.

Whether you are a cyclist or simply a lover of Tuscany, this is one of the most authentic and inspiring events of the year.
